The Wild Side of Conservation in Costa Rica

Inside Diamante’s Wildlife Animal Sanctuary

At Diamante Eco Adventure Park in Guanacaste, Costa Rica, conservation isn’t just a mission—it’s an immersive experience. Our Wildlife Sanctuary is home to over 60 rescued animals, including sloths, jaguars, monkeys, toucans, and crocodiles, each with a unique story of survival.

But this is more than a visit—it’s your chance to be part of Costa Rica’s commitment to biodiversity. Licensed and supervised by SINAC (Costa Rica’s National System of Conservation Areas) and proudly CST Elite Certified, our sanctuary serves as a fully accredited conservation center for animals that can no longer return to the wild.

Why Animal Conservation Matters

Costa Rica contains nearly 6% of the world’s biodiversity, making it one of the most ecologically rich countries on Earth. But this biodiversity is under threat due to:

  • Habitat loss
  • Illegal wildlife trade
  • Climate change
  • Human development

At Diamante, we address these issues through:

  • Permanent homes for non-releasable wildlife
  • Veterinary care and tailored nutrition
  • Environmental education for visitors
  • Sustainable tourism that funds ongoing rescue and rehabilitation

Meet the Animals: Each Story Makes a Difference

Lucy, Mia & Ziggy – Two-Toed Sloths
These gentle tree-dwellers carry entire ecosystems in their fur, supporting algae, fungi, and insects that promote forest health. At Diamante, our three sloths—Lucy, Mia, and Ziggy—remind us of the importance of slowing down and appreciating balance in nature.

Nico & Sama – Jaguars
Costa Rica’s apex predators, Nico and Sama are striking, powerful, and vulnerable. Their presence supports natural balance in the ecosystem. At Diamante, they’re safe from habitat encroachment and human conflict that threaten their species in the wild.

Capuchin Monkeys
Agile, intelligent, and essential to reforestation, these monkeys are key seed dispersers. Their natural behaviors help restore and maintain the health of the rainforest canopy.

Spider Monkeys

Spider monkeys consume a variety of fruits and are among the most effective seed dispersers in tropical forests. Their movement through the canopy helps maintain tree diversity and forest structure.

Toucans, Parrots & Crested Guans
Brightly colored and full of personality, our rescued birds were saved from the illegal pet trade. They play an essential role in seed distribution and forest regeneration.

Crocodiles

Often misunderstood, crocodiles help keep aquatic ecosystems balanced by preying on fish and controlling shoreline vegetation. Observing them up close sparks curiosity and respect for these vital predators.

Interpretive signs and expert guides bring every animal’s story to life—encouraging empathy, curiosity, and environmental awareness in every visitor.
